Murphy, Quinn agree on the need for a special election, but differ on time frame |
|
Chicago- State Senator Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) says he and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn agree on the need for special elections to fill United States Senate vacancies. But, they disagree on whether or not Illinoisans can hold a special election without Senator Burris stepping aside.
I wholeheartedly agree with Governor Quinn that Illinoisans deserve the chance to elect their U.S. Senator when a vacancy occurs, Murphy said. But, while the Governor thinks we are dead in the water unless Roland Burris agrees to step down, Im confident that isnt the case. We have a practical and legal plan to hold a fair and open election as soon as we get the legislation passed. |
